Sylvania is a metropolis in Screven County, Georgia, United States. The population was ii,675 at the 2000 demography. The city is the canton seat of Screven CountyGR|vi.

Geography

Sylvania is located at coor dms|32|45|ane|N|81|38|23|West|city (32.750151, -81.639590)GR|1.

Co-ordinate to the United States Census Agency, the urban center has a total area of iii.eight foursquare miles (9.8 km²), all of information technology land.

History

The date of origin of Sylvania is unknown, but it became the seat of Screven County when it was moved from Jacksonborough in 1847. Sherman's army moved through the expanse in the Civil State of war. Sylvania calls itself the "Azalea and Dogwood City" and the "Welcome Station Metropolis".

Demographics

As of the census GR|2 of 2000, there were 2,675 people, ane,088 households, and 683 families residing in the city. The population density was 705.5 people per square mile (272.five/km²). There were 1,285 housing units at an boilerplate density of 338.9/sq mi (130.ix/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 57.42% White, 41.57% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.34% from other races, and 0.22% from ii or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.93% of the population.
